The doctor treating the former Brazilian president says Jair Bolsonaro’s condition is “stable” and if it remains so, he may be discharged soon.
Jair Bolsonaro was discharged from the Intensive Care Unit of the SF Star Hospital in Brasília, where he was battling bronchopneumonia.
However, the former president remains hospitalized in this unit, and it is unpredictable when he will be discharged, indicated his attending physician, Dr. Brasil Caiado.
It should be recalled that Bolsonaro was hospitalized on March 13th after feeling unwell in prison. The former president was diagnosed with pneumonia resulting from aspiration pneumonia, clarifies G1.
According to the medical bulletin released this Monday morning, the former president remains “clinically stable” and may be discharged if his progress continues to be “satisfactory.”
Jair Bolsonaro was hospitalized after experiencing nausea, fever, and chills during the early morning hours. Former President Bolsonaro has faced several health problems since 2018 related to the knife attack he suffered during that year’s presidential campaign, when he was wounded in the abdomen. Since then, the former president has undergone several hospitalizations and medical procedures to treat complications arising from that attack.
This current hospitalization is Bolsonaro’s first outing since he began serving his sentence for attempted coup d’état at the Papuda Penitentiary Complex on January 15. The last time he was hospitalized was while detained in a special cell at the Federal Police headquarters in Brasília, where he underwent four surgeries and remained hospitalized between December 24, 2025, and January 1 of this year.
Bolsonaro’s most recent illness came just hours after Brazil’s Supreme Federal Court (STF) annulled the authorization granted to an advisor to the US president to visit the former Brazilian leader, after the government warned against possible foreign interference.
Bolsonaro began serving a 27-year and three-month prison sentence on November 25, 2025, following his conviction on September 11, 2025, for the crimes of armed criminal organization, attempted violent abolition of the democratic rule of law, coup d’état, aggravated damage through violence and serious threats, and vandalism (deterioration of listed heritage).
